Explorer Commander Amy Hegarty joined the Aurora Police Explorers in January of 2007. She was a
graduate of Explorer Academy Class 07-01 and was recognized for being the top academic performer for the
class.
During her tenure with the Post she has served as a Field Training Explorer, Explorer Sergeant and Explorer
Lieutenant. In 2011 she was promoted to the rank of Explorer Commander and currently serves as the Post
Commander
Explorer Lieutenant Hegarty attended the Explorer Post Advisors Association of Colorado's (LEEPAAC) 2008
Leadership Academy, 2008 & 2011 Explorer Tactical Competition in Chandler, Arizona, and the 2008 EXCON
Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada. In 2011 she attended the Capital Challenge Explorer Conference in
Topeka, Kansas.
In 2011 she was selected to attend the 2011 National Law Enforcement Explorer Leadership Academy
hosted by the United States Marshal's Service in Washington D.C.
She has been awarded the following awards: Tenure Award, Law Enforcement Training Award, Law
Enforcement Service, and Explorer of the Year for 2008 & 2010.
Explorer Commander Hegarty currently attends the Colorado School of Mines.
