LEEPAAC SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED
Post 2024 Attends EXCON in Las Vegas, Nevada

Members of Post 2024 attended the EXCON Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on June
14th. They competed against Explorers from 41 different law enforcement agencies. The
Explorers who attended are: Explorer Commander Buck, Explorer Lieutenant Phillips,
Explorer Sergeant Eliasen, Explorer Sergeant Hegarty, Explorer Agent Garcia, Explorer
Agent Stanton, Explorers Bendever and Craft. All of the Explorers performed exceptionally
well and represented the Aurora Police Department with pride.
New Reserve Advisor Joins Post 2024

Officer Julie Stahnke has been selected to be a Reserve Associate Advisor with the
Post. Officer Stahnke currently is assigned to the departments School Resource
Officer Unit. Welcome to the Post.
Post 2024 Advisors Assist at National Conference
Post Advisors from Post 2024 hosted the traffic stop competition at the 2008 National
Law Enforcement Explorer Conference . The conference was held at Colorado State
University in Fort Collins, Colorado from July 21-25th, 2008. Approximately 320
Explorers from around the United States participated in the competition. The event
was planned and organized by Post 2024 Scouting Committee Chairman Sergeant
Tom Wilkes. The following Advisors were judges and role players: Acting Sergeant
Pat Shaker, Sergeant Steve Redfearn, Officers Amsler, Schurr, Robertson, Carlson,
Shenefelt, and Bunch.
New Post Advisor Appointed
Acting Sergeant Patrick Shaker of the District 2 Patrol Bureau had been appointed
the new Post Advisor for Explorer Post 2024 . He will be replacing Officer Chris
Amsler who is stepping down from the position.
Acting Sergeant Shaker has been an Associate Advisor with the Post since 2003 and
has primarily served as an Operations Advisor.
Post 2024 Members attend Leadership Academy
Congratulations to Explorer Sergeant Amy Hegarty, Explorer Agent Monica Garcia,
Explorers Patrick Smith, Racheal Obermeyer, and Zeonna Parrish for successfully
completing the Law Enforcement Explorer Post Advisors Association of Colorado's
Leadership Academy held in Estes Park, Colorado in October. Each Explorer was
awarded with a yellow, gold, and blue commendation ribbon for attending the academy.

New Associate Advisors Join the Post

Cmdr Phillips Selected to attend National Academy
Congratulations to Explorer Commander Explorer Phillips who was selected to attend the
National Law Enforcement Explorer Academy in Washington D.C. during July of 2009. The
academy was hosted by the United States Marshall Service.
Explorer Commander Phillips was selected from applicants from all over the United
States.
Being selected to attend the National Academy is a great honor of Commander Phillips
and the Post.
He is the fourth member from the Post to attend the Academy.







Explorers from Post 2024 attended the 2009 Capital Challenge Explorer Conference in
Kansas from July 31st to August 2nd. The event was hosted by the Topeka Police
Department. The Post placed in the following events:
1st Place: Community Policing Event
2nd Place: Traffic Stop Event
3rd Place: DUI Traffic Stop Event
3rd Place: Domestic Violence Event
The Explorers also received the 2nd highest overall score for the entire conference.
